I guess it is about time to take you on a walk in the streets of the old town, Villajoyosa.
This is originally a fisherman town with strong connections to the sea, but it is also known as the chocolate city of Spain. Valór is the best known brand and has been produced in this city since 1881. Walking the streets here is a fun and charming experience. Some alleys are literally stuffed with plants in such numbers that it is almost difficult to pass through. In others the laundry hangs from windows and balconies. Around the next corner you might discover an intimate square or a small park - Around other corners - maybe a local tapas bar, or a small shop++.
Below: There are plenty of plants in the historic part of the town. It is never difficult to find a bench to take a rest or just enjoy the atmosphere. We have often experienced that neighbours gather spontaneously in the street to sing, dance flamenco or play games together. It is a charming and unpretencious place to vacate!
The "Ayuntamiento" or town hall in Villajoyosa on the picture to the left. The city is well known for its multi coloured house facades, but if you want to change the colour of your house you need to contact the city architects to make sure the colour is part of the "Villajoyosa scheme". I have been told it is possible to ask the city to have the facade renovated for free, but we have not done that. Painting these houses is not the biggest job one can face....
Below, one of many small squares where one can sit down, enjoy the tranquility and sound of the water fountains, birds singing or the neighbours talking..
SvarSlettSå nydelige bilder! Fikk lyst til å ta meg en tur med en gang. Men, akkurat som Anonym, over her, er det pengene det skorter på. Men, drømme kan man jo alltids.
God helg fra Bente
